The school year is quickly coming to a close. Thank you to all my students and parents that have helped make this schol year special. I hope you and your child have felt this year to be as successful as I have. Good luck in 5th grade to all my students, and see you next year!

February/March

March 5th, 2009

Spring is almost here, and with that the annual arrival of the DSTP & spring break. We will continue with Theme 5 in Language Arts, Social Studies sees the beginning of the Revolutionary War, the new science kit is Land & Water, and in math we are moving into adding & reducing fractions.

November 6th, 2008

This month is very exciting. We have moved past the Fall DSTP, and are in full swing with all core subjects.

Reading and writing are seeing us finish Theme 2, while we continue with Focus Skills such as “Conflict, Plot Events & Resolution” along with “Author’s Purpose & Perspective”.

In math we are moving into long division by utilizing the “multiply to divide” method.

Science has seen the arrival of our crayfish, and we have been observing them for a few weeks now. We will be finishing up our Structures of Life kit shortly.

In social studies, we are moving through European exploration of the Americas, and into the colonization of America.

October!

October 9th, 2008

October is here, and with it comes the knowledge that we are well settled into our routine and procedures. We will be continuing with probability in math, as well as starting Theme 2 in reading. The reading stories for this theme are: “On the Banks of Plum Creek”, “Justin and the Best Biscuits in the World”, “Three Little Cyberpigs”, “Weaving a California Tradition”, and “Emerald’s Eggs”.

We have begun spelling with the Words Their Way spelling lists, and that is being taught in small groups.

in science we will be receiving our crayfish soon, and will begin observing and recording our interactions with them.

Social Studies will be continuing our styudies of teh earliest Americans, and beginning to enter the realm of European colonization of North America.

The Science and Social Studies DSTP is the week of the 20th through the 24th!

We are in full swing here in 4th grade. We are gearing up for the science and social studies DSTP in October, working in small groups, centers and whole group in Language Arts, and working on different methods of multiplication in math.

Welcome to the edublog for Mr. Jason Bonavita’s 4th grade class here at Carrie Downie. We have had a great kickoff to the new school year, and hopefully as we stride into September we will have a lot of fun as well as learn a lot of new things.
