October
Fall is here, and with that comes the 4th grade foray into the DSTP. The dates for the science & social studies DSTP are October 19, 20, 22, & 23. Please see that your child gets a good nights rest before each day of testing, and that they eat a hearty breakfast before each day.
In language arts, we are moving into Theme 2, “Getting the job done”. We are reading “On the banks of Plum Creek”, “Justin & the best biscuits in the world”, “3 little cyber pigs”, “Weaving a California tradition”, and “Emerald’s Eggs”. We continue to get 6-10 new vocabulary words each week, so please help your child study.
In math, we continue to move deeper into multiplication. As of today, we have 4 math hotshots! We have been graphing and plotting points on a line. We are moving into probability very soon.
Social Studies is seeing us dive into the realm of European exploration of the Americas. We have been talking about Spanish conquitadors, and explorers from all over Europe settling in our continent. We have a major project that will be handed out soon, a report on an explorer or conquistador. Please see that your child is working on this throughout the month.
In scince, we are continuing with our Structures of Life kit. Our plants are planted in the hydroponics, and we await the arrival of our crayfish!
Please email or call with any questions or concerns, I look forward to the upcoming month!
